The final episode of Chuunibyou is here, and it’s quite good.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - Screenshot 03Seriously, Rikka is gone for a few days, and the whole world just goes batshit crazy. Dekomori becoming a proper ojou-sama and Kumin-senpai inheriting the Tyrant’s Eye? What. The. Hell.

Then again, that non-chuu2byou Deko was pretty sweet, even if disturbingly so.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - Screenshot 07That was a close call. It’s almost as if you didn’t care about Rikka, Yuuta. Then again, I have to give credit to the guy – no matter what he felt in his heart, he tried hard to stay consistent and do the ‘right’ thing according to him. I mean, while chuunibyou may not be a bad thing (hell, even I do chuu2 every now and then, and I’m supposedly an adult person :P),  but Rikka went a bit too far with it. So in the end, I think what Yuuta did was the right choice – opening Rikka’s eyes may have been a bit cruel, but she needed to confront the reality. The problem lies in the fact that everybody didn’t want to limit Rikka’s delusions, but *remove* them completely, basically raping her personality.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - Screenshot 17FUCK YEAH. I knew that KyoAni would at some point introduce us to the Dark Flame Master, but damn, that was quite a display. GAR Yuuta is epic.

And then came the dreaded scene…

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - Screenshot 24Seriously, I almost lost it at this point. The emotions, finally bursting out; the memories of past, coming back… Dammit, KyoAni – this isn’t CLANNAD, but that crying Rikka in a white dress moved my heart and almost made me cry manly tears. Such practices should be banned, period. Nevertheless, you are fuckin’ geniuses when it comes to such scenes.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - Screenshot 26Aaaaand we’re back at square one, folks. Rikka’s in her chuu2boy, all’s right with the world. Though hopefully, this time she will be able to control her delusions a bit more than before. And it wouldn’t hurt for Yuuta to loosen up a little bit and give in to his Dark Flame Master side a bit more often. Oh gawd, imagine the kinky foreplay…

As a standalone episode, it was great. As an ending, it was… satisfactory. Not amazing, but good enough. More on that in the series review.
